Although these beverages typically contain no alcohol, gas detection is still vital due to the use of CO (carbonation), nitrogen (N, for inerting/packaging), refrigerants, and cleaning agents.

1. Carbonated Beverage Production

● Main Gas: Carbon Dioxide (CO₂)

● Risks:

1) CO₂used for carbonation is stored under pressure and can leak, leading to asphyxiation hazards.

● Gas Detection Applications:

1) Install high-precision COdetectors in CO₂ storage areas, carbonators, and pipelines.

2) Set up audible/visual alarms and automatic shutoff valvesfor rapid response.

2. Nitrogen (N) Use

● Purpose: Used for inert gas flushingin packaging (e.g., beer, juices, bottled water) to extend shelf life and prevent oxidation.

● Risks: Nitrogen is odorless and colorless; leaks can reduce oxygen levels, leading to asphyxiation.

● Gas Detection Applications:

1) Use oxygen monitorsto ensure ambient O₂ levels stay above 5% (safe threshold).

2) Install nitrogen leak detectorsin filling and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) zones.

3. Cleaning & Disinfection Gases

● Common Gases: Ozone (O₃), hydrogen peroxide vapor, chlorine (in some cases)

● Risks: These gases are toxic or corrosiveat high concentrations.

● Gas Detection Applications:

1) Use ozone detectors, VOC detectors, or toxic gas sensorsto confirm safe residual levels post-disinfection.

2) Ensure proper ventilationand gas testing before re-entry.

4. Refrigeration Systems

● Risks: Refrigerants such as ammonia (NH)or fluorocarbons used in coolers or cold storage.

● Risks: These gases may be toxic, flammable, or environmentally hazardousif leaked.
