Applications in the White-wine (Chinese Liquor) Industry

Applications in the White-wine (Chinese Liquor) Industry

2025-12-12

White-wine production involves multiple processes such as fermentation, distillation, storage, and bottling, many of which generate or handle various gases. As a result, gas detection plays a critical safety and quality control role.

1. Fermentation Process

● Main Gases: Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), small amounts of ethanol vapor

● Risks:

1) Microbial metabolism during fermentation produces large volumes of CO₂. Poor ventilation may lead to dangerous CO₂ accumulation, posing asphyxiation risks.

2) Poor sealing may allow ethanol vapors to escape, creating fire and explosion hazards.

● Gas Detection Applications:

1) Install CO₂ detectors inside or around fermentation tanks to monitor CO₂ buildup and prevent suffocation.

2) Use ethanol vapor detectors in fermentation areas to detect escaping vapors and ensure concentrations remain below the lower explosive limit (LEL ~3.3% for ethanol).

2. Distillation Process

● Main Gases: High-concentration ethanol vapor, water vapor

● Risks:

1) Ethanol vapor released during distillation is highly flammable and can cause explosions when exposed to sparks or high heat.

2) High temperature and pressure increase equipment failure risks.

● Gas Detection Applications:

1) Install high-sensitivity ethanol gas detectors near distillation columns, condensers, and pipelines to continuously monitor ethanol vapor levels.

2) In advanced setups, gas detection systems can be interlocked with ventilation or automatic shutoff mechanisms to mitigate risks when gas concentrations exceed safe thresholds.

3. Storage & Aging

● Main Gases: Ethanol vapor (from storage vessels), possible VOCs

● Risks:

1) Long-term storage in ceramic jars, stainless steel tanks, or warehouses allows slow ethanol release. Without proper ventilation, vapor accumulation poses fire risks.

● Gas Detection Applications:

1) Deploy fixed ethanol gas detectors or portable gas detectors in cellars, warehouses, and storage facilities.

2) Large producers may implement networked gas monitoring systems for remote surveillance and alarming.

4. Safety & Worker Protection

● In production workshops, cellars, and bottling lines, devices such as:

1) Oxygen detectors (to prevent oxygen-deficient environments),

2) Multi-gas detectors (for simultaneous monitoring of CO₂, O₂, ethanol, etc.)are used to protect worker health and safety.
