● Gas Appliances (e.g., Stoves): Leaks often occur at flexible hoses (rubber/metal braided) connecting to appliances, which may deteriorate, crack, or have loose fittings (statistics show that ~40% of gas accidents stem from hose issues). Improperly closed stove valves or clogged burners can also lead to incomplete gas combustion (producing carbon monoxide).

● Gas Water Heaters: For forced-draft or balanced-flue water heaters, damaged exhaust vents or improper installation (e.g., vents extending indoors) can cause combustion byproducts (including carbon monoxide) to backflow into living spaces. Pipeline leaks pose similar risks as those in stoves.

● Built-in Gas Appliances: Devices like built-in stoves or ovens, once installed, are difficult to inspect, making internal pipeline leaks more concealed.

In winter, low temperatures may cause exhaust vent blockage due to frost, leading to backflow of combustion byproducts. If the balcony is connected to indoor spaces (without solid walls), gas leaks could spread indoors.

● Rental Properties/Older Residences: These often have aging pipelines (e.g., corroded galvanized pipes) or unauthorized modifications (e.g., diverting gas to non-dedicated rooms), posing higher risks.
