Multiple New National Standards for Gas Detection Equipment Take Effect in 2026, Raising Industry Safety Bar

Jan. 22, 2026 – China has rolled out a suite of new national standards and technical regulations for gas detection equipment in 2026, marking a critical shift toward stricter safety oversight and pre-accident prevention across high-risk sectors like petrochemicals, catering, and municipal engineering.
Key standards include GB 16808-2025 Combustible Gas Alarm Controllers, which officially takes effect on Aug. 1, 2026. It sets updated benchmarks for product performance, mandating stricter quality control from raw material sourcing to factory inspection. Meanwhile, GB/T 46794-2025 Guidelines for Construction and Operation of Gas Protection Stations in Chemical Parks—effective April 1—requires chemical parks to equip portable gas detectors for oxygen, toxic, and combustible gases, enhancing emergency response capabilities.
The newly implemented JJF 1834-2026 National Metrological Technical Specification mandates digital calibration for all detectors, requiring real-time upload of 6 environmental parameters and tamper-proof electronic certificates with hash values, replacing outdated paper records. Additionally, the revised CCC certification rules demand "one product, one code" traceability, with QR codes enabling verification of certification status and manufacturer information to curb counterfeits.
These standards align with China’s strategy to advance public safety governance. Experts note they will drive industry upgrading, as enterprises must replace non-compliant equipment by Q2 2026 to avoid shutdowns or fines. "The standards create a closed-loop management system covering R&D, production, calibration, and retirement," said a representative from the Emergency Management Ministry’s Shenyang Fire Research Institute, "laying a solid foundation for safer industrial operations."
